Construction is under way for Cedar Point ride

SANDUSKY - The steel skeleton of the newest
thrill ride at Cedar Point is taking shape this winter, with scores of
workers starting to add the guts to the park’s 17th coaster.

The Maverick, which will debut when the park opens May 12, will carry passengers on a 2 1/2-minute ride.
The course, 4,450 feet long, takes up a 5 1/2-acre site between the Mean Streak roller coaster and Thunder Canyon water ride.
Maverick will take passengers to the top of a 105-foot-tall first hill,
down at a 95-degree angle, at speeds of up to 57 mph, to within five
feet of the ground. A second "launch" inside a dark tunnel is designed
to send carriages out into daylight at 70 mph.
The Maverick is designed to handle 1,200 passengers an hour.

Eric Berry of Lucas Plumbing makes adjustments to the track. The Maverick, which will be the 17th coaster at the amusement park in Sandusky, will carry its passengers to the top of a 105-foot-tall first hill, then down at a 95-degree angle at speeds of up to 57 mph to within five feet of the ground. Robin Innes, spokesman for the Sandusky amusement park, said yesterday
the general contractor, Adena Corp., of Mansfield, Ohio, and its
half-dozen subcontractors have about 100 workers at the park.
"Right now, the track structure is done," Mr. Innes said.
The foundation and much of the track assembly was completed last year
while the park was open, giving visitors an opportunity to watch the
growth of the park’s next thrill ride.
"Now we’re putting in all of the guts," he said.
That includes the machinery needed to operate the ride, the loading
station, and other gear needed to operate the IntaRide LLC-designed
coaster.
The ride will cost $21 million, second only to the hefty $25 million
price tags for the Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster rides, Mr.
Innes said.
White Water Landing was demolished to make room for Maverick, although its station was retained.

Yo yo yo… zup all? hope u all r doin gooooooddd… coz I am!! It’s two weeks before Easter (repent urself yet??) and Daylight Saving Time (DST) for most people in the U. S. of A had begun @ 2 a.m. today. Hope u didnt forget to change ur clocks and if you haven’t, stop reading this entry & go change it NOW (yes, check your computer clock too)!!!!  I’m sure u dont want to be late for work / class / meeting tomorrow! Ha ha ha!

Anyway.. I was surfing Fark just now when I stumbled across this interesting article about SPAMARAMA. Woot? Yeah that was my first reaction too. So I checked it out and there is actually a "yearly festival for SPAM". For those who live outside the U.S, SPAM is like a half-meat ham in a can which is more like a "Ma-Ling" product for Asian people. Well anyway, Spamarama is not an April fool joke and this year it was the 28th anniversary for the event. As you can see on their site www.spamarama.org, the event was annualy held in AUstin, TX and this year it happened on the 1st of April (Gee, I wonder if my friends down in AUstin have any idea about this event at all…). They have professional cooking contest using SPAM as the main ingredient obviously (No wonder those Texans girls have gorgeous bodies even tho they eat pork fats), SPAMALYMPICS which includes eating contest, disc shoot, relay race, and SPAM-JAM, a live music on-stage for the duration of the event. They even have a children activity area called the Pig Pen. Lol. Basically this event is like the biggest SPAM fan fair and since Spamarama is weird enuf for most people, it was held to support the "Keep Austin Weird" slogan.  Go check out the spamarama website for more details and bookmark it if you want to attend it next year.

Another thing I found out interesting is that scientists are now capable of making water droplets travels uphill against its nature characteristic. Impossible you think??  Then see this image courtesy of www.livescience.com (click on the picture to see the animated *.gif file). The main principle is to super-heat the surface on which the water will drop such that the water droplets will evaporate before even touching the surface, thus creating a tiny gap in between. Hence you have water droplets ‘floating’ on the surface and if the surface is rigged like in the picture, the evaporated water molecules will create a lifting force that makes the droplet travels upwards. Wazzup yo ? Well.. it’s been a while after the last entry. Nothing much has been happening in my life except for looking for jobs and ways to stay in the country after my OPT ends. Anyone wants to sponsor me? T_T

Anyway.. I watched this Indo movie "Cinta Silver" last week… and it’s pretty good in terms of storyline, casts, and "beauty-shots". Some of the scenes and lines are still cheesy and lame… but overall it’s entertaining and touched issues that concern most of us Asians.

The main story of Cinta Silver was about a 35 year-old succesful bachelor, Levi,
who has an old girlfriend, Cecil, who Levi had been avoiding for a long time. However, this time their paths cross each other again when Cecil came back to Indo to do some photoshoots. Levi’s mother, Bunda, loves Cecil so much and wishes Levi would get back together w/ her and eventually marry her. In the mean time there is another popular model biatch type girl called Jess who also likes Levi but hated by Bunda. So Levi’s family (Bunda, Levi’s sisters) and his bestfriend, Wisnu, who happens to be Cecil’s photographer all trying to patch things up between the two…
